Another feature of Mini Bangladesh is that it has replica of houses from all parts of Bangladesh:

This, as they say, is a Sylhet house.

And this, a Bogra House

You can see a "shan badhano pukur ghat" in front of this Jeshore house.

The "mother" is making "pitha puli" for her sons in this Khulna house (mothers from other places don't make so??)

In this Pabna house, this lady is selling Pabna special pitha puli (so we can say mothers from Pabna usually make pitha-puli to sell outsiders??... hmmm--- no wonder the only MH of BD is in Pabna....)

A replica of a Rangpur house. (can you see the kobutorer basha [pigeon holes] in front of it?)

Where is the Chittagong house?? Maybe I forgot to take a picture of it, cos I thought it was not representative of Chittagong houses... I can put up a million real pictures of Chittagong houses, also from my own Image gallery... :)

You can guess I am in a blogging mood today! So, what I haven't done in the last few years, I am doing it now...

Yupp- more pics - from the same location again:

The most beautiful replica in the whole place is Shona Masjid (A historic Masjid). I wonder how beautiful the original piece is, this whole piece-even the replica- is a beauty! I had to take pictures of different bits and pieces of this building, as it's beauty was soo stunning!
The above picture is of the entrance. An important note: this is serving as the real Masjid at the place! So the size is, I believe, as the original (or very close).

Sorry to be away for so long. I was in the middle of putting up pictures of this wonderful Zia Smriti (Memorial) Complex, also known as Mini Bangladesh (and Anando Bhubon).

Instead of blabbering any more, I better get started with posting pictures:

This is replica of the wonderful historic "Ahsan Manjil", the original one being located in Puran (Ancient) Dhaka. It is a very historic building, which used to be the residence of some "Nowab".
I haven't been to the original, so trying to do some "dudher shad ghole metano" with this.

The replica itself almost resembles the original, even the size of it is almost the size of original ( am no architect to give you the exact figure). You get the proof when you see the rear side of it- even the rear side is so meticulously accurate!

This is the Kantojir Mandir (the size not being so close to the original). You can see the signboard-unfortunately on the ground, which has it's name written on it.

Replica of the Historic Curzon Hall, which is a part of Dhaka University now. Have I been to the original? Can't recall.. Even if I have seen it from a distance, probably it wasn't a sight so memorable.. so I tried to make this sight of the replica memorable. The pic came dark, and I am still wondering whether I took the pic from the right side.. But who cares, lemme put it up on my blog first!

This is the BORO kuthi. There is one CHOTO kuthi as well. The original history is supposed to be something relating to Rabindranath Tagore. But I am not not a History student, so don't ask me more about it.

Oh yeah, it is where you get on the train- that's all I know about BORO kuthi.

And here comes the Choto Kuthi. Not sure what is this one's function in the park. And it's history? umm, err...

Salamz all,

No more excuses for it's already apparent that I need no excuse to go into hiding.

I haven't been roaming that much, so I thought I didn't have any picture to share. But just yesterday I recalled I DID go to some places where cool pics were taken!

Yeah and that ONE place I am talking about includes ALL of Bangladesh! Sounding strange? Well, that's the case with the quite new (few years old) Zia Smriti Complex that encompasses quite a HUGE place, and has replicas of almost all notable structures of Bangladesh. And so, it's called "MINI BANGLADESH" by many..

There are still sooooo many places and tourist attractions yet to be explored by me. But this one place was good enough to quench SOME bit of my thirst of visiting all of BD.

So, no more "pechal" and lemme directly go off to pics now :)

This is the replica of National Monument (Jatio Smritishoudh). I haven't been to the original one, so I liked it!

And this is the mini replica of The Supreme Court. Not that I am a law person, but I still loved the design of this great structure. Yeah, and I didn't visit the original... as well.

MY village

My village, Chunati, means something really special for me. It's the place where I was born, and so were every member of my family!

What's so special about my village, you might want to know- it is (most probably)the only village in Bangladesh that has a WEBSITE based on it!

It occupies a special part of my life, and whenever I get the time and the chance, I never miss the opportunity to visit her. You might laugh at me, but I won't hesitate to say, it is the heaven for me. I do have some scattered pics from my village here and there in this blog, but they are not all in one place. And I am not used to tagging posts :(, so these can't be found at one click.

I always wished to share the many great pics I have taken of my village in each of my trips. But there are so many, I decided it demands special attention, just as special it is to me. So I thought of developing a separate blog site on it.

So with that site to describe my village for you, I just shared some random pictures that mean a lot to me! Hope you enjoy it!!

The following pic is taken on the way to Jaflong. It's best if you can start for Jaflong early in the morning, and these clouds playing on the hilltop will create a wonderful welcoming ceremony for you on the way.

The waterfall at Madhobkunda is a must see place in Sylhet. Though the journey to Madhabkunda is a tiresome one, all your sorrows are sure to wash away just at the site of this beautiful fall.

It takes three hours to go and another three hours to come back from Madhabkunda. And all you see is just a fall? NOO. IT's more than just a fall and you have to be there to understand what I mean. But believe me, it's worth it!

Sylhet in Pictures

Last December I had the chance to visit Sylhet, located in the North-East of Bangladesh, along the borders of India. Sylhet is well known for its tea gardens, the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA), its splendid scenic beauty with hills standing firm in the horizon and to add to it- the extreme cold in its air.

I have some more of Sylhet pics somewhere in my early blog entries. But those were hired from my sister, and this time I was too excited as I myself was there to take as many pics I wanted.

I was one of the 70+ members of the team that visited Sylhet on a "study tour" from our uni. Although we called that "study tour", it is actualy an "escape from the boring studies" and so we all were excited to our most.

It takes around 12 hours through train from Chittagong, and we had two boggies hired for our team. The more we proceeded Sylhet, the more the December cold was increasing and we all were cuddled together, trying to save ourselves from the cold. There is not much of sightseeing possible in night train journeys, so we just didn't mind sitting with all the ammunitions we had to fight the cold. Not to mention, there was always some kind or another fun items going on here and there.

Just to add here, I earned some fame taking pics of different sleeping poses :D

The morning was great. WE were all so excited to reach Sylhet that we forgot we had a bad night with almost no sleep (that's what everyone was trying to say, though I had concrete proof of almost everyone's strange sleeping styles).

And I better continue with the story in pics rather than in words. That's already too much for this blog. If you have alraedy read till this much, I must give you a thanks for your patience.

To start with the pics, these two are just a glimpse of a tea garden from Sylhet. We only visited one garden, and that also just before the sunset, and not for longer than half an hour. So I need to aplogize first for the low quality picture:

Though I was on the way of posting some pics from my Cox's Bazar and Saint Martin's Islam visit, I suddenly disappeared. Well, in the meantime I paid another visit to Cox's Bazar, and for now, I am going to post pics from this visit.

The first pic is taken from the hotel balcony. The sun is rising with the message of a new day. I miss this scene alot, as since December 2006, I lost access to the horizon towards the east. (Since we shifted to a new house). SO I didn't miss this chance to capture this beautiful scene at a beautiful place.

This pic is from my visit to the beach n the morning. I couldn't help taking as many pics as possible of the waves. But I don't want to bore you guys with waves only. SO they will stop after just another pic:

I recall reading a special line from "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho, one of my favorite books, related to the sea. If not exactly, it says something like "Whenever you visit the sea, you realize how tiny you are". Yes, exactly indeed. The endless horizon teaches us there is no end to its beauty. And to add those lines from that poem we have all read in our childhood (Bangladeshi ones, i mean)-

"Inggite tar shikhay shagor, Ontor hok rotno akor"

(The sea teaches us indirectly, our hearts should be a chest of jewelry)

The greedy sea has eaten up many lives. Yet, its beauty, its splendor attracts us so much that we can't resist the temptation of visiting it, no matter how many times we have had already.

Salam everyody!

Don't think I am already dead-I am alive...:) And also don't think i have been stuck inside my four walls.. I did go around to many places and did take many pics.. but was too lazy to upload them, that's it.

Well I can't actually decide where to start- with so many pics remained unshared with my blog viewers (if any!!!)- I am in a dilemma already!

Ok I better start with pics from my Cox's Bazar (longest sea beach in EARTH!! (not kidding))and Saint Martin's (Only coral Island in Bangladesh) trip last year from uni. That was one pieace of a trip and those 3 days in the middle of Dec 2006 were the best days in our lives and will remain so for long, I BET!!

so, no more of "pechal" I better start with pic uploading!

The first pic here is taken on the way from Cox's Bazar to Saint Martin's Island.

This second pic represents Saint Martin's Island, the only coral island in Bangladesh. It's a very beautiful place and you should go there, if you are in Bangladesh.

It's best to spent a night there, specially, if it's a full moon night. THe scene of the illuminated waves (not kidding) during the night is a never-to-be-missed scene, believe me!!

We should vow to keep this treasure of ours alive, forever and ever.

I couldn't answer that question in a quiz competition recently :-( .....)
This is my personal favorite picture for many reasons. And so I decided not to publish the many pics i took in Dinajpur Shwapnapuri, Parbotipur Coal Mining Centre, Syedpur, etc...(not enuff time, inshaAllah later)in order to publsh this pic as fast as possible..... which was one of the last pic i took on my whole trip.
This is taken from the bus when i was on my way back from Dhaka, while it was crossing the Meghna Bridge...
this pic is my personal fav, cos the sun is about to set, with a great message for all of us...'that no matter how shining the sun is, it has to set'..and that 'no matter how far we go, we have to come back'.. and yeah, that means, 'no matter how long we live, we will once have to return to where we belong'.... May Allah help us all realize the truth and prepare for our final destination... Ameen..

Assalamu Alaikum, dear everybody, sorry for my late return.. i was postint pics on my trip.. and i suddenly disappeared at halfway.. i just came back (after a year, considering Bangla Calender)... to give it a finishing touch...
Here is a pic taken from the Jamuna Bridge, while i was on it.. it's taken from the car, so it came blurr, I wish I could have taken a pic of the whole bridge, but there is no system to stop your vehicle if u are to cross it. But i still posted it here to prove that I have taken a trip on it, (i was so excited while i was on it for the first time that i sent messgs to sum of my friends, and one of my friends thought i mistook it with Meghna bridge, and that i was on my way from Dhaka to Ctg!!)
This was my first trip to North Bengal, and thus Jamuna bridge, and mayb the last as well, cos rumors r in the air that cracks have been found in it!! May Allah save us!! Ameen..

It's a huge area, mainly a shooting spot. I didn't get a chance to visit the whole place, and of the little I did, I didn't take pics of everything. Just a few spots which seemed 'pic-worthy' to me, I have captured. This is one of that...its mainly a fountain, but what do those idols represent, I wonder! U guess!!

This is a building which is called the 7 Heavens!! The Buddhists believe this is their 7 Heavens! It's a seven storey building with a name for each storey. The names are so tough I wasn't able to memorize them. There is a stair that leads to the 3rd floor.

In my trip to my village, I went to visit another village and this pic I took while coming back - from the moving taxi... The scene in both sides were sooo nice, but I cudn't tell the driver to stop at every point-or else he wud have taken me to PMH (Banggalira bujhe nen) instead of my village.. lolz.. so i cudn't take pics of all places and not all the pics came good.

Inside the pagoda there is a small lake (or pond??)..and inside there were these beautiful water lilies (oops!! the pic covers more of the lake (??) than the water lilies! sorry :) ..). And for those who don't know - water lily is our national flower. That's why they are so precious to us!

Let me tell you the best part of the trip-visit to the stream...yeah!! There is such a beautiful waterfall (very small, doesn't look like a fall, but yet, it was marvellous!!)with a stream!! MY! That was an adventure.. we had to walk into a village type area.. a lot away from the main campus.. leading to a hill. This is a view from there, I am standing on the hill, and this is the view of some other hills that can be seen...

A visit to Chittagong University

Assalamu Alaikum,
Hope you guys are all doing fine. Life is going on.... quite smoothly here. Don't feel like blogging these days, so I am being really irregular....
...But not when I have something new to share- so today I am going to post some cool pics I have taken on my visit to Chittagong Universtiy. That's the only public university in Chittagong- located in Hathazari, far from the main town. I have some friends studying there, and I heard from them it is a very beautiful place-located in the rural area, with real natural scenic beauty.. we (a bunch of friends) were planning to pay a visit to this place since long, and last Tuesday (6th Sept) we made it. And MY! THAT WAS A DAY!!
First of all, let me surprise you with the story of 'how to get there'... there is special train from main CTG town to the university (I heard this is the only uni in the whole world which has its own separate train station, it's up to you to verify and believe though!) and that is the normal way to get there. There is a train at 7.30 am, but we caught the 8.30 am. And MY!! IT WAS ONE JOURNEY I WILL NEVER FORGET!! Up to you to guess why... o yeah, bhule jacchilam, onekgulu free gan hojom korechi - bajna chara na abar, bajnao chilo- instrument chara natural hater bajna.. shudhu bhabchilam, ei train eto chor thapor kheye etodin beche ache ki kore??!!shotti!! ki bichitro ei desh!!

Hmm.. we reached the university premises at around 9.15 am and its a long walk from there to the main campus and the buildings.... with the blazing sun above our heads, it created a big headache and leg-ache.. we the outcomers were continuously praising the energy of the ones who study there-may Allah keep them as energetic all their life! I had to come back to the main gate to get some ammunition to survive the heat.. and these are the pics I managed to take while on my way back - here you can see the side view of the road from main entrance inwards. This time my friend and I were on a rickshaw-didn't want to fall over the road while having a walk on that looong path again-I really loved this road alot (while with an umbrella over the head)- with hills on both side. I tried to take pictures of natural beauty- no man-made monument/building/structure, purely natural pics, except pictures of a pagoda we visited. Here I am going to post more of those pics, but not all at once... gotta give some gap in blogging.. for some feedback and also cos gotta wait till I can collect some more lot of pics from another part of MY BELOVED SCENIC BANGLADESH. A river is flowing just beside the village. I took a pic of it, this pic didn't come out to be very good and it was quite dark at that time, the cloudy sky says it. But I couldn't resist myself from sharing it with you ppl. This river is a small one (I guess its name is Halda, but I forgot), a branch of Karnafuli, on which lies my hometown Chittagong.

Here I am, back again with more pics. I recently visited a village. Here are some pics from that village. As you can see, it is full of green, the first feature of any village in Bangladesh.

A Ride in the Amusement Park

This is one of the rides of the Foy's Lake Amusement Park. (Are you raising your eyebrows? Yes, it is in Foy's Lake Amusement Park, Chittagong, Bangladesh!). This is called the dry slide. There are two dry slides, the red one and the yellow one. This ride was so fun, we went on this yellow one twice, and didn't go on the red one thinking that it wouldn't be scary at all. But later we found out that it's the red one that is scary!! (:( I am still regretting for it).
There are many other rides and I am not going to post the pictures of it, you have to pay a visit to this place to see it.
Be sure to go there when you come to my Chittagong.

View of a Hill

This is another hill you can see from Foy's Lake. The building you can see there is a restaurant, also newly built, part of the amusement park. So guys, don't need to worry about food. You can easily go to Foy's Lake and spend the whole day. If the rides make you tired and hungry, just log in and hog some food.
I heard they are building picnic spots on the top of these hills. It certainly would be a great place to enjoy then.

Foy's Lake

Salam everyone.
This time I am posting a few pics of Foy's Lake. Now they have built this amusement park in here. There are many rides offered which is part of that amusement park. You can see boats of different size. Although the amusement park has changed the whole entrance path of this lake, the natural view of Foy's Lake is still there. You can go on a boat ride from here, which will cover the whole view of the lake. I didn't go on the ride, so you guys have to be satisfied with pic of only this place.
Thanks to CONCORD GROUP (the same group that built Ashulia Fantasy Kingdom) which has done a great job, brought a drastic change to Foy's Lake. Click on the link to Foy's Lake Amusement Park on that site to see more pictures, and know more about it.

There goes another inner view of The War Cemetery. The breeze there is amazing. You can see the epitaphs of many great warriors of World War II.

But I forgot to take a pic of the big cross that lies in the middle of it. Will post a pic of it later.
It is a really scenic place, make sure you pay a visit to it once you come to our dear CHITTAGONG.

War Cemetery:Description

The war Cemetery is graveyards of the members of the Allied forces killed in the Indo-Burmese front during the World War II. In total, 755 soldiers from Australia, Britain, Canada, East and West Africa, India, New Zealand and other countries were buried in this cemetery.
It was built on the first half of the decade of 50s, located in hillside sloping place in the southwest corner of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The total area of this cemetery is 8 acres, which is protected and supervised by the Common Wealth Graves Commission. There is an open field and beautiful garden just outside the cemetery. The whole scenery and environment of the area is eye-catching, solemn and tranquil at the same time.

Don't think Bangladesh is still long way behind. Besides its beautiful nature, Bangladesh is now getting packed with artificial amusement parks. Dhaka's Fantasy Kingdom, Nandan Park, Chittagong's Foy's Lake Amusement Park(will post pix of these later iA) is not all. Sylhet also has one of this type of a park, named Adventure World. Here's partial view of this from the top of a hill. One distinguishing feature of this park is that it is not fully artificial. The touch of nature still remains. (hey, ain't I good at commentating? Although I hav not yet got the chance of visiting this place (but I m dying to), what I just wrote is fact. I heard from my sis)

The Famous Shrine (Front gate)

Now you guys can see my cutey lil nephew (don't forget to say MashaAllah) in front of the Famous Shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) of Sylhet. (Hey, isn't his (my nephew's) shades cool?) lolz. Did I tell his name? Ooops, I forgot-his name is HANEEN.By the way, this is the front gate of the shrine, and the place where you can see a few people standing in circle (look over Haneen's shoulders), that is the place where a bomb blasted around a year ago injuring The Hon'ble British Ambassador to Bangladesh.
